Waltham Forest council slammed by judge for 'a monumental waste of money' | Mail Online

A shopkeeper was asked by a passer by, "could they take a cardboard box off the rubbish pile, awaiting collection?" Sure, take it away, it's rubbish. The box, with the company name, was later found on an illegal fly tip. The firm were asked if they had tipped it, which is an offence. She explained that she had given it to a third party, who must have done it. The Council took the shop to Court for giving the box away!!!! Sounds crazy to you, right? !!
However, in Law, if you put out rubbish, for collection, the ownership of the rubbish passes from you to the rubbish collector. The shop did not have permission from the new owner, the collector, to give the box away!!! The Judge, in the case, scored a victory for common sense and threw it all out of Court. It cost £15,000 in Court and lawyer fees for the Council to take Court proceedings.
