Inside Dale Farm: What life is really like behind the scaffolds and wire fences

Inside Dale Farm: What life is really like behind the scaffolds and wire fences | Mail Online

Life crushed into a caravan is not really fun. The continual trek for water if the 'van is not plumbed in. The sewage problem and the smell in warm weather are not too good either. Cooking smells permeate everything from clothing to bedding.
I once hired a motorhome for a week. We cooked the first night and never again. We broke the very thin wooden bed slats the first night too!!!! It was warm and cozy but I feel sure that I could not live with the gas smell for a long time. It was said to sleep six. My girlfriend, while in the main double bed, had to climb over me to get to the toilet!!! We decided to use a single bed each after that. There were two of us and we kept falling over each other. Filling the water tank with a hose caused a lot of swearing and emptying the toilet tank was no fun after a night on the booze !!
While I agree, we were novices and a system has to be sorted out, should anybody wish to use one for longer periods, it was not a very pleasant experience, nor was it cheap. The scenery was nice and I love driving. We did have the freedom to stop anywhere that we wished and just get drunk!. To top it off, the thing broke down and we had to limp home at 25/30 mph, which did not make us popular at all.
