Debit card fees: Outrage triggers backlash against BofA - latimes.com

It certainly is an outrage to charge people for using a Debit Card. Money does NOT leave your account on the day that you pay. This is untrue. Banks have a clearing bank system were the days Debits against one bank and placed against the day's credits and only the differences are paid. There are no huge big money transfers. This takes 3 days inter bank and five days if a card is used not issued by the user bank. The clearing bank gets the inbetween interest to pay themselves. The huge amounts just stay where they are gaining interest.
It s quite possible for bank A to pay banks b c and d £1,000 after the credits and debits are added up and don't move anywhere.
It is possible to pay bills, on line, with a debit card, on a Friday afternoon. Then withdraw money later from an ATM Your wages may go in over the weekend to tidy it all up or you are left with an unauthorised overdraft and big fees.!!.
