In the UK, f you provide your own Health Insurance, then the cost, to you, is deductible from any Income Tax that you might pay, either as a self employed person or a PAYE one. In addition, you may opt to pay much less in National Insurance contributions. Employers providing benefits to their employers, also, may deduct the cost from their Income or Corporation Taxes.
You are not barred from the Health Service in any way. should you collapse in the street you can still have an ambulance and treatment. The idea of Health Insurance is for a person to go into hospital to have small routine operations and/or treatments in relative comfort and when it is suitable to them as opposed to when your number comes up on the rota of the National Health Service. This, in theory, allows more room and time for staff to treat others in emergencies and without insurance.
Unfortunately staff can get more income from fees generated in the private sector as opposed to the public one. private companies entice staff into their system, which leaves a gap in the cover provided by the NHS. If all fees were standard, across the board then things would be much better all round.
