The US is now going to charge Canadians $5.50 to cross into USA every time they do so. So what will happen at the huge Boeing factory in Seattle? Many workers at that factory live in Canada and come to work everyday in the factory which is in uSA. This is for tax reasons. They live in Canada but work abroad. A very lucrative little scam.
So now they will have to pay $5.50 every day just to go to work!!! What idiot decided on $5.50 anyway? A straight $5 would mean the transfer of one note or change, in notes, which is far easier than hunting for change. I suppose they hope that folks will just put in on plastic, which will allow them to forget about it, rather than taking it from their pocket.
But say a person works a 6 day week. So $33 a week with 4 weeks holiday plus bad weather, plus health issues, say 44 weeks is $1452 say $1500 out of a person's wages per year. This will not go down very well at all. Boeing is in enough trouble and they are only one company that has cross border employees. In general, it is only workers who will pay the bulk of these fees as, in the main, the traffic, is the other way. Many Americans go to Canada to buy booze, cigarettes and their drugs, for medical conditions, as all are cheaper in Canada.
This fee is just silly.
