As it is very near the Summer holidays I don't think that anyone will notice that they have gone. I cannot understand why teachers moan about pay. They almost have more days paid holiday than they actually work!
They are about to start an eight week holiday. Followed by 10 days in October, followed by nearly three weeks for Xmas and New Year followed by Easter for two weeks. That is about 20 weeks off work and getting paid for it. Over and above they have numerous public holidays, elections and bad weather days off. So shall we say 26 weeks all in!!!!!
Very few work weekends and their day begins at about 8.30am running to 4.30pm with two breaks and a hour for lunch. in senior school they get free periods to prepare and mark any tests that are set and to get course work sorted out.
A Head Master or Deputy head can expect over £100, 000 a years Half of that is holiday time when they can get on with being taxi drivers, painters & decorators, plumbers,joiners, web designers and all the other part time jobs which they do, tax free of course!!
While I would agree that not all are on the same luxury cruise liner, most however, ain't in a row boat!! have you ever looked at the teachers car park? Most cars are pretty new. So, if they are as skint as they say they are why don't they pool car or even better get on their bike !!!
