Underground hot water in UK granite 'could power radiators'

Underground hot water in UK granite 'could power radiators' | Mail Online

Hardly a new idea! Piaggo in Italy, have been making heat pumps for more than 50 years. Water gushes upwards just like oil and coming from the depths, it is warm water. The pipes, up and down, can have a hydro generator attached to provide electricity.Central heating can be run directly from the hot water. It is called geo thermal energy and after bore holes are in place it is free !!! It only seems to work in Granite areas.
Two holes are bored. One to allow hot water up and the other to pump the col water back down. So it is a closed system. You can put as many water heated units as you like in the system. Natural pressure forces the water up and the pump pushes the cool water back down.
I have never understood why it is not used more often. I suppose the cost of the bore holes puts people off. With the prices of gas and electricity going ever higher perhaps it will be used much more often, now.
