Where to drive as fast as you dare

Where to drive as fast as you dare - Telegraph

Now that I'm a bit older I've gone off the idea of driving at high speed and much prefer slower less frantic driving. Not by any means have I become an armchair driver but I do like my comfort, good sounds and not having to concentrate too hard while driving.
In my youth I travelled on motorbikes at 120 /140 mph, regularly. In a Ford Cosworth, highly tuned madmax machine, I attained slightly over 150 on the M6 The thing had been stripped of everything not needed and only had two seats as it was in rally spec.
Recently I had a new Ford Focus 1800. Bored and wishing to regain my youth, I took it out onto the motorway at 3 am one morning and on checking that things were clear, I wound it up, yellow lineing every gear from second up to fifth. I looked down to see that I was passing 135 and I freely admit that I bottled it to go for the limit of 150 on the speedo. I was comfortable, warm and the sounds were good. The car did all of the work, really. I am, currently, awaiting an MG6 Turbo which, sadly, is electronically limited to, I think, 125 mph. I still got a few screw drivers in the shed !!!!!!!
