Some may say that these tit for tat attacks are okay. They are wrong. Embassy of countries are safe havens for their nationals to go to in times of conflict or for information. Under the Geneva Convention an Embassy is deemed to be sovereign territory of the occupier. They also provide back channels through which secret negotiations can take place.
The host country has the responsibility to keep safe the staff and the building. In recent decades the American Embassy in Vietnam was overrun ending up on helicopter escape via the roof in Saigon. The Iranian Embassy in London was invaded by anti Shah followers and PC Yvonne Fletcher was shot outside. It was eventually recaptured by the SAS led by Scotsman, John McAleese who recently died in Greece.
Embassies should be left alone and kept safe.
