There is normally a quiet period, letting folk under the approaches to airports, get some sleep. With all of the time zones involved, people will be flying into London, for the Olympic Egg and spoon and sack racing at all hours. They gotta land somewhere.
There is no chance of using the Noise Abatement Act, as aircraft are exempt under a weird 1949 Act. They did not have huge jets then and perhaps it should be repealed or at least a grace period introduced.
