The manufacturers have quietly stopped putting bisphenol A or BPA into the bottles but older stock is still on shelves. This chemical is added to plastic to make it tougher. Boots are also selling bottles made by Tommee Tippee, too. The company has removed BPA from it's new bottles. In America, the six biggest bottle makers stopped making BPA products last year following scientific outrage that the FDA was doing nothing. NUK have removed their bottles.
Boots and Mothercare say that the bottles are safe. Mothercare say that they offer "reassurance and advice" through it's website and on leaflets. They say that polycarbonate bottles should be kept free from scratches or signs of wear, should be replace after six months and not placed in boiling water!! Tell baby not to bang and scratch their bottles and they will say "goo goo goo!!.
Disney, who sell these bottle in Britain, agreed that the bottles here are different from the ones in the U.S.
This seems to be completely double standards. Old stock appears to be sold if no one complains and no laws are passed banning them.
