OnStar Discloses That it Will Track Customers Without a Plan | News & Opinion | PCMag.com
The American in car system has arrived in Britain. Vauxhall are introducing On Star in selective models, the expensive ones,of course. They will operate it from their factory base in Luton. The first year is free as a come on gimmick and you pay for each additional year.
However, if you quit, your car is still connected one way and data can still be collected. Just like switching off your webcam or computer or mobile phone don't matter a jot, cancelling On Star don't matter either.
They are offering a 4G internet access system. Are we going to see people watching movies on youtube or catching up on TV programmes on I players while driving along??? It is illegal to be able to 'see' a screen other than a Satnav, in the front seats of cars in the Uk. Will I players and youtube be blocked?
Music videos and documentaries are also available on youtube and how about pay for view systems like Netflix or the free Popcorn movies. Hey let's make a Skype call from the car to Granny in Australia!!
This on star system is going to be very very dangerous unless certain channels are blocked on the Internet. So is this the beginning of censorship on the Net by the back door? Is this a Hegelian Dialectic move, yet again? Are people going to clamour for blocking channels which will open the door to Net censorship.
Is On Star a stealth move?
