Big Pharma don't like marijuana these days and big oil did not like it, either in 1928, when they engineered it's ban, in a sneaky move during an overnight debate of the Hemp Act. Hemp was too useful to be banned and it was found to be quite capable of running engines.It grew anywhere and was cheap. It had been used for centuries to make rope, paper, lubrication, heat retention and making folk giggle, among many other uses. Aramco had just been founded and America was committed to Saudi OIL. So they changed the word hemp to the Mexican equivalent, marijuana, to get it banned, as a drug. Nobody saw what happened and thought that they were banning a drug coming from Mexico. Hemp growing was then banned and we got oil.
