I was a serial drink driver for years. I lost my licence several times and took taxis. it was really no big deal. The first time that I lost my licence, I had two whiskeys and two pints of lager. I was young,healthy, fit and sober. I was, however, just over the limit. When I got my license back, I was good, for a while. I then decided that it I was going to lose my licence, again, I was going to be blotto.
I discovered that the higher the score, the heavier the fine and longer the ban. However, if I refused the test, which was a different offence, then I would get a minimum ban and a fine. This is what I did. I slipped up with my fourth ban which I got too quick and got three years ban. I actually took the car to the Court and drove home !!! I was a bit mad in those days.
Anyway I say all this, not in bravado, more to confess my stupidity. I think that there should be no wiggle room with numbers, eating onions which are pickled in alcohol, or mouthwashes which contain alcohol and all other clever defences. The limit should zero alcohol in the system with a first time year ban, then five, then ten and then a life ban. Story ended!
I have not driven with any alcohol inside me for ten years, now and I am much happier.
