The Internet

In the beginning, as all good stories go, the internet was to be used to communicate, via satellite, between countries, should all other forms of communication go down during or after a nuclear war That was the Cold War
Terminals were placed in Embassies and universities and locked away in doomsday cupboards with very, very few staff even knowing it was there. The terminal would be used to 'talk' to satellites and to others round the Globe via satellite. They could report to a central control on all damage, death, etc.. As the Cold War disappeared with Ronnie Raygun acting out his part in Star Wars it was decided to open up the Net to academia. They could exchange information on their projects and results in secrecy. The problem was that very few people knew how to operate it!! So they had to be trained as programmers which let the cat out of the bag. More and more peer groups were allowed to go online until there came a time when Al Bore invented it all and gave it to the people.
Now information can fly round the World in nano seconds. The desert peoples can see just what their rulers have been up to spending the oil money, mainly, on themselves and their families.Recently I posted, as many did, the two super cars owned by the prince's who bought Harrod's getting a parking ticket on each one.  Both worth well over a million pounds and painted in a special blue paint! What do their people think of them?
Therein lies the problem. People are using the Net to track and expose the stupidity that Saudi princes' get up to in London casinos drinking champagne and spending loads of money.  They see this as they sit drinking tea in a cafe and say to themselves, 'I want some of that!!' The net is a great information tool but it only needs one fraudulent tweet or facebook entry for it to fly round the World as being gospel truth.
