Believe it or not neither a fire engine nor an ambulance is allowed to legally 'jump' traffic lights without a police escort leading them through. They do it all the time. However, should they hit a car or a person then the driver can be charged with offences. Doctors with green lights flashing are not allowed to 'jump' lights, nor are unmarked police cars. People can only legally be run over by marked police cars 'jumping' the lights !!!!
Sirens and two tones I hear you cry! Deaf people may not 'hear' the sirens and walk forward on a pedestrian crossing. Blind and partially sighted people are in the same boat. They listen to the beeps of the control system or feel the walk/ don't walk light coming on/off. They may hear the siren but may not be able to orientate which way the vehicle is coming from.
