Quite possibly he was hypnotised or mind altered to be a Manchurian Candidate. It is certainly a possibility. If you listen to the tape without watching, there are an awful lot of shots fired. He had a six shooter revolver, which could not have fired more than the six. Many more are heard. You would think that on the most important day of his life he would remember it.
