There is a huge difference between Socialism and Communism. You can be a democratic Socialist but you sure cannot be a democratic Communist. People lump all of the branches into one pot.
There is Nihilism, Trotskyism, Leninism and various other isms, all of which were formed by leaders, who took a bit of this and a bit of that, to form their own doctrine, under a generalized Socialist banner.
