Every weekend there are 3 or 4 light aircraft which fly round set areas of greater London. Essex, Milton Keynes, Oxford corridor and central London are the main areas. These hired planes, from flying clubs and private owners, who need flying hours, to keep their licenses, have stinger units onboard and they scoop up mobile phone conversations while they are flying between 2,000 and 3,000 feet or even lower!!.

They can easily be found and tracked on sites such as www.planefinder.net. Just look for a circling plane and click on it to see the type, registration, owner, and height, at which it is flying. You will also see the track, which the plane has been following, marked in blue.
