I remember working in Glasgow, during the UK miners strike, when there was a rota of power cuts, three days a week. We used candles at our desks but could get little done because we each used a key and lamp interconnecting phone system. We could not see lights flashing, only hear the clicking at the main distribution box. So we played cards, chess and did crosswords instead!
