Very true! There has never been a long lasting Empire but despite this people will keep trying!
The Roman Empire collapsed because of logistics. They could not get troops on the ground fast enough to quell any uprisings, despite having huge fleets of ships,building roads and forts.
The Austro Hungarian Empire collapsed mainly due to the Balkans which were a melting pot of East meets West and continually in local turmoil.
I know these are broad statements but the size of the Empire is the biggest downfall, every time.
