As I became interested in cooking,at about aged 13/14,for future survival upon leaving home, my mother was preparing chicken one day. She said that I should be extremely careful storing and preparing chicken,turkey or any other game bird. Never ever rush it and think the steps through.
I found birds to be very bland, with any taste coming from the other stuff on the plate, I decided that remembering all of the safety steps was just not worth the bother and have never eaten birds since then.
This became embarrassing,in later life,when I entered the rubber chicken circuit!!
