The class structure was perfected in Britain who saw the caste system in India and took it all to a new level in placing people within a grouping and then sub dividing the groups into upper and lower just to confuse people more.
In Britain there was Royalty who did nothing. The upper class who owned the wealth and ran the means of production. Then there were the workers who went down mines, worked in dangerous factories and produced the wealth in return for their on little share called wages.
However the upper class did not want to have to go to the office everyday and so they took the brighter elements of the workers and made them managers, thus producing the middle class. Now the upper classes are felling the pinch and they can't get rid of the wealth producing workers and so the managers must go !
