Old bang bang typewriters which were used a whole lot got the type of the most used letters all clogged up. You were supposed to wipe them with surgical spirits to clean them up but it was rarely done. This has A clogged and a lower case d But R and U are clean as are the 9 and the 6.
It would take a typeface/ typewriter expert to date the machine but I'm sure there are plenty about. To complete it, if it is a fraud, a blank certificate, of the proper vintage, would be needed. These are a bit more difficult to come by. There should be a watermark including a printer's coded batch date which I would like to have checked out before I said yes or no.
You can 'wash' the type off an old one using petrol and water which leaves the original printing on the form. Takes a couple of days, followed by a quick dry by ironing between two towels. But you gotta be careful not to crumple the paper too much, so I'm told.. Then type in the details.
