Eco-bulb cost to treble:

Eco-bulb cost to treble: Makers cash in as the ban on old-style bulbs kicks in | Mail Online

These bulbs are useless when sitting reading a book or a newspaper. They provide enough light to see your way around but to do any form of work under there puny light is almost impossible.
This lightbulb gag is a super con anyway. An American inventor took his everlasting light bulb to Osram with a view to a joint venture of them making the everlasting bulb and him developing his ideas further and a hoped for percentage. Osram bought up his plans and data and locked them in a vault !!! He got a cheque and a big thank you for being silly enough to believe that it would ever see the light of day!
The new bulb is filled with mercury powder which is highly toxic. When they break this is released into the air and should not be inhaled. You cannot, by Law, throw them in the bin with the rubbish. In fact, they must be taken back to a registered vendor of the bulbs. They will be collected in special containers and disposed of at a specialist centre. Who is going to go through all that to toss a light bulb out which ain't working? The disposal charge is said to be covered in the sales price. However just like the fridge/freezer mountains, a disposal firm will be ale to charge anything in a few years time and they will have the backing of the Law which demands that the public use their facility. Oil cartels could be taking a few leaves out of this playbook!!!
A woman in England bought up and stored loads and loads of the old bulbs for her future use. She was arrested and charged with some storage crime!! In the next few years Court cases will begin brought by binmen, oops sorry, refuse disposal engineering department onsite operatives, who will claim that they have been poisoned by inhaling mercury dust. Try and disprove that one !!!
However as always there is a loophole. Inspection lamps used by mechanics in garages under cars, etc., will be allowed to have an "old" bulb in them. So chat up your local garage owner! Imagine in a few years time there will be a black market in light bulbs !!!!
