Kama Chinen has died a week short of her 115th birthday in Okinawa, Japan. The mantle of oldest person now falls on a French woman, Eugenie Blanchard, who lives on the island of Guadelope in the Caribbean and is also 114 years old.

Second eldest is another Japanese, Chiyono Hasegowa at 113 years old who lives in Saga Province. Japan is the hot spot for longevity and Okinawa has produced a large number centenarians thought to be due to a diet of Green Tea, Rice, Miso Soup, vegetables and fresh fish..
