It is just after 10 am and it is on of those typical Scottish days where the Sun is shinning and the temperature is in single figures. This is Spring and out clocks go forward by an hour at about 1.00 am tonight. Nothing much will happen today,I hope. Glasgow is in the middle of a tit for tat gang war at present and people are being killed because of their allegiance to one or other crime family.It happens every ten or so years.
The economy has its ten or so year cycle. Unfortunately, this downturn is going to be different in my opinion. The French kicked off the riot season a fortnight ago But they always have a riot in March!
Battle lines are drawn in the USA with FEMA camps set up probably to house anyone arrested for civil unrest. Therefore rioting in America could have dire consequences. Pack a big bag, you could be away from home for a while!! Many homeless Americans, living in tent cities, may like the idea of the camps. A roof over their head, some security, food and free medical attention.
But any riot will not be the weekend affair that it has been in the past. Where you turn up have a riot, go home and get back to the day job on Monday. Seattle was the last big economic riot and it went on for more than a weekend and that did not play well with the American authorities. So there is a stand off at present.
In Britain, however, we have no camps and are close to Europe for moral support. We have the G20 meeting going on this week and as I write this many thousands of people are descending on London for the first riot of the Summer season!! Football has not started yet and the football hooligans should be there for a bit of pre season practice!! Plenty of overtime payments will be made and I suspect that a huge amount of damage will take place. Fortunately our police do not carry firearms and there will not be shots fired, I hope. I also hope that no crazy group will use it as a reason to detonate a bomb!! In America, unfortunately, all the police carry firearms and a riot situation, where things get heated, could just be the catalyst for a shooting incident.
I hope for a peaceful Summer but somehow I do not think that this will com about. I hop that I am wrong but I think that events will descend to a new all time low.
