It started years ago with vegetarians wanting special meals for their kids. It has proceeded from them to where it is today with all sorts of special interest groups and religions wanting this or that,for FREE.

I hated school meals and took sandwiches in the early years at my secondary school In the later years, it was a visit to the chip shop or, when I could afford it, the local pub for a pie and a pint.!

There should be a free meal supplied for kids. If parents don't like it, then they should supply their own !!

The costs of providing individual meals of tofu and lettuce for three and halal meat for three and on and on is astronomical and impractical. The cooks only have a short preparation time to provide a rotating menu. They can't be farting about making up  fancy meals other than on health grounds such as for diabetic kids.
