'Slave-like' conditions revealed in car washes - The LocalNo matter which country you go to there are loads of car wash outlets. These are cash businesses and staff are 'employed' on a sub contract basis. They are treated as self employed and are therefore responsible for their own tax payments.
Many workers are illegals or in receipt of social security and so they will work for peanuts. The site owner may charge £5 of which the washer may get £1 as an example. Nobody records how many cars are washed and if people sign for their share, they use Donald Duck names. Commonly used are little books with a top sheet ripped off for the worker and a carbon copy remains in the book. These are the records !
By holding the spine of these books and violently shaking them, the carbon deposits become unreadable!!
