I can't understand why they all flock to Calais. If they head to Cherbourg, they can get onto a ferry, which goes to the Channel Islands, which are British. Once there, they can get another ferry to the mainland,if they wish.

Alternatively,board a ferry in France and travel to Eire. They can walk through the EU citizen gates as no passports are needed. Then they simply board a ferry from Dublin to Liverpool which has very few checks.
