They say that history repeats itself and I,for one, do believe that life is cyclical. In the mad days of King George 1,2 and 3 and during times before them England was at War, a lot, mainly with France. In order to pay for these Wars they had to raise money and did so by inventing various taxes.
They had a window tax, whereby a person paid a fee, per window, in his home. So people knocked out the windows and bricked them up!! Rather than bore you with all of the wizzard wheezes set up, I will just mention the most infamous one, from George III., Income Tax, This was set up as a temporary measure!!!
So we move on and Governments are broke again, but still want to fight Wars. What has changed in 300 years?
Now they are angling to rob our Bank deposits, which we have provided from wages,which are taxed..In addition, any interest(HaHa) which we get is also taxed as unearned income in some cases. Now,they want the rest! Is it any wonder that people in the UK do not want to work? Living on Benefits, can bring into a household, more than combined wages do and they are not taxed, in anyway.
