EU vows to ban jugs and dipping bowls from restaurants to 'protect customers'

In America, bars put out bowls of peanuts, normally, heavily salted, to get patrons to drink more. This really did not catch on in the Uk. However, some years ago, an American theme bar was opened, in Glasgow, Scotland, complete with roller skating waitresses and became the target of the local council health officials. The bar had bowls of peanuts, on to of the bar, for customers to dip into and eat. The officers noted, on undercover visits, that folk were going to the toilet and coming back to nibble their nuts! So they got permission to raid the bar and capture the bowls of nuts for testing. The tests produced 42 different sexual and unclean types of germs, within the bowl and on the nuts. This led to a complete ban on freebie bowls of anything, on any bar. In addition, ice buckets which had been placed on top of bars, for people to take extra ice cubes, were banned as well, for the same reason. The ice buckets had to be kept behind the bar and tongs used to plonk ice into drinks.
