A designated airfield was lined up and all the pomp, dignatories and bands were there to greet the incoming plane. At the last minute, the plane was diverted to a military airfield. The reason being bad weather. Stories abound, in Poland, that the glide slop and landing details were altered and the plane crashed short of the runway in a wooded area.
People in the woods, at the time, hunting or whatever, have reported shadowy figures, already in place, moving through the crash site, finishing off any injured people. Shots were fired at any civilians approaching the crash in order to deter them from coming nearer.
