Britain is no better! Although, fortunately we have a national health service which is being slowly but surely privatised. Care homes, for the elderly, are now run by private firms for profit. Doctors do less and less. They have out of hours agencies, who now do most of the work, leaving them to a five and a half day week, if they take a baby clinic on a Saturday morning. Many leave it to the practice nurse.
They have accountants, in the practice office, to ensure that they get every scam going to increase their profits. Job sharing is the favourite, where receptionists work a set number of hours, which means the practice does not have to pay national insurance for them.
They split the patient numbers up into two or more practices, independent of each other, but working in the same building. They employ nurses and health visitors to avoid doing a lot of work. Their wages are tax deductible. In general, doctors merely refer you to the local hospital. Drug representatives, turn up pushing the latest most expensive products, whether they are any use or not. Who knows what goes on there.
But it is all still free, which makes it all very good value.
