I love this attack on folks on benefit !!! Benefits in the UK go up each April. The law says that they go up by a percentage figure which appears in the previous September. Now that figure is derived from rises in prices for the year prior to that September and will last for a year So...............
Rises in costs over September 2010 to 2011 decide the benefit rise. This is given six months later, therefore
prices of stuff have been rising for 18 months before anybody on benefit gets help to pay for these rises.
Gas and electricity costs have risen by about 25% over the period, never mind fuel, which affects delivery and production, leading to higher prices of bread, milk and so on. The rise to help must last for the next full year.!!!
If things had not been so bad the rise figure of 5.2% would have been lower!!!
Now the figures............
A single man is expected to exist on £65 per week!!! So he got that in April 2011 to last for a year during which prices have risen rapidly. That rise was about 3% So he got £2 a week more then to cover a full year of rises.
Impossible to be done. This time he will get £3.38 to cover rises until April 2013 !!!!
If the average wage in Uk is about £400. The same percentage would be £20
Could you feed and cloth yourself plus heat your home and provide hot water on £65 x 52 weeks or £3380 or $5500 Of course not !! Is it any wonder that these people turn to crime???
