BBC News - Tougher penalties on knives announced by Lord Advocate
It is all very well saying that the maximum sentence should be 4 years. Nobody ever gets it !! If a person murders somebody with a knife they may get life which in the Uk means about 8 years. In most cases, this is reduced to a charge of Manslaughter, as there was no premeditation. The sentence normally being 2 to 4 years. Giving them a concurrent sentence of 3 or 4 years for carrying the knife is completely meaningless.
