I can remember hearing about the day when Mel Gibson, minders,a few others and Serioas Wallace all appear in a local pub, the Thorn Inn in Johnstone, Renfrewshire. They bought everybody a drink and had a few themselves. They had been looking at the Wallace Monument in Elderslie, the remains of Wallace's house and touring round Wallace country.
The Thorn Inn is a grade 2 listed building and is one of the oldest coach houses in Scotland. They had stables to change and/or bed down horses for coaches or express riders and rooms to let.. It also acted as toll road gate keeper for the main route to Ayrshire from Glasgow and Paisley down into North Ayrshire and beyond.
