It is so that there is less chance of a bomb coming from a fake address. Anyone can mark anything BFPO and it will go to any base named via Royal Mail The Forces only get near it in the camps. It is a stupid system.
There should be a RoYal Mail to Forces sorting office for checking by scanner then hen cleared back into the R.Mail System for UK delivery directly or retained for overseas bases via RAF flight or similar.
