If there is a huge amount of pressure built up under the seabed then by capping one "release valve" it will only force the opening up of smaller outlets to allow the pressure of the trapped gases to escape.
I am quite sure that fissures on the Gulf floor will open up soon and then an oil volcano will erupt ! Until the gases under pressure escape then oil and gases will just keep on pouring out and an Ocean floor crack (s) won't be closed by any means.
