I am now of the opinion that this is score-settling for the egg on face sojourn into the middle east. America was beaten in Viet Nam, abandoning embassy staff (look familiar?) they were flung out of Afghanistan and now they will bolt out of the middle east very soon.
It will be called a controlled withdrawal (bolt for home with tail between legs) to allow the indigenous folks to sort it out
