You pick what to buy, put in money, some broker buys it for you. The broker adds all the punter's money together and makes a big buy with big commission and possibly big profits (using your money remember).
Using supercomputers, they place buy and sell orders in nanoseconds, with each order gaining them a commission, in cash. You share in the profits, not the commissions. Even if they make a loss, they still get buy/sell commissions.!!!!
So I told her, stop, I'm not interested, too complicated and hung up!!!
