Coal is a finite resource. Although bad for miners and the spill off industries I believe that,for the greater good, coal should be preserved for some point in the future when all other systems have failed.
Free Energy will never be allowed to happen.
We already have had the everlasting lightbulb which 'disappeared.' A guy invented it in the late 50's and took examples plans and patents to Osram with the hope that they would make it cheaply,using economies of scale,with the guy getting a lump sum and a unit percentage.
Osram loved the bulb,agreed that it probably was everlasting and paid him a lump sum of believe $3,000. Having bought full rights, Osram promptly locked away the papers, never to be seen again!!
