The Orient Express and Rovos Rail are the luxurious trains offering elegance of a bygone age | Daily Mail Online
For madness, I recently priced a railway ticket to cross America. Some allowed two changes and others four. All trains have restaurants and bars aboard and no doubt observation cars. The average journey time was 74 hours covering some 3,000 miles. Expensive you think??? Nope peanuts ! About $270 to $300 single or £180 Cheap flights are available flying into Newark New Jersey, from Europe, as opposed to going to JFK which is much more expensive. A train from Newark will drop you in Central New York.
So for about £250 to £300 a head, you can fly from Glasgow/London to Newark and then board a train,in New York for three to five days trip with possible stop over points and arrive in Los Angeles .
