What Happens When People Can’t Get The #1 Most Prescribed Drug In The World After SHTF | Self-Sufficiency
I have been hooked, for decades, on the Uk equivalent which is called Dihydracodine and comes in 30mg tablets. Originally, I was given them to relieve joint pain and my current dose is 3 tablets every four hours.
Nowadays I have little pain as the bones in the joints have fused together in both ankles and both knees.
My fingers are bent and twisted and I have lumps on the inside of my wrists.
If you have seen the movie Trainspotting, the part which shows the folks going into withdrawal, pretty much portrays exactly what I used to go through when I ran out of tablets. I don't run out anymore!
I would start off yawning deeply. Then feel hot flushes and tingling. One then gets cold flushes and tingling.
I would begin to scratch and rub the end of my nose. Then there are involuntary movements. This is known,in slang terms as rattling.
I could fight this off for a while and then the search is on. I would manically run round the flat in the hopes that I would find a strip of 10 to keep me going until I could get a prescription. The euphoria,on finding some planked away, is magnificent! Another trick that I used was to phone round and borrow some from a fellow sufferer, to be repaid later.
However, if I had none at all, I was in trouble. The best thing to do is to try and sleep. Not easy due to scratching. Then you remember a jacket which you have not searched and your off....
If you remain awake you firstly get hit with dihorea and later vomiting. Sometimes both at once ! This is called pebble dashing the bathroom! Eventually you have nothing inside you and bile comes up. At this point tomato soup is a classic. You gotta put stuff in, to let it come out. !!
The longest that I have gone, without tablets, happened twice over holiday Monday weekends. I had ordered the drugs, but could not get them until the Tuesday. So 3/3.5 days has been my top. If a person can keep going suffering the withdrawal they can be off them in seven days which is not too long. As long as you keep taking in soup to bring up you can make it. I have done it twice, having tablets at my side should I chicken. It really is down to will power as long as you have some with you. The other way, without tablets, is just madness and I believe much harder.
I no longer get a buzz from taking them. It is just a case of take them or suffer. In Scotland, I get them for free,so why suffer? The side effect is constipation which can be remedied by taking Senna tablets. I doubt if there will ever be supply difficulties in the Uk like those envisaged in America. The Economic Laws of Supply and Demand will take over and back street dealer prices will rise. Wholesale and retail chemists will be targeted,no doubt.
