The last time that I was in hospital,some 7.5 years ago, I was assaulted by a patient in the next bed to me.

He was a big lump of a guy,well built and about 5'10" with tattoos.  I took him to be ex army.

He was very quiet and would sit up in a chair staring into space. The second day,I happened to say,'like your tats,have you been abroad?'   Just to strike up a conversation.  He turned in his chair,said nothing and turned back again to stare.  Um!  I said to myself,right forget it,mate.

He had said nothing to any of the guys on the ward and on the third day,about tea time, he stood up and turned, headed towards me,lying in bed and attempted to punch me !!!  No warning...nothing!  In my youth I had done a bit of the old Japanese country dancing and as he headed towards me I knew what was coming. So I kicked him in the chest and pushed him off.

Two other guys had been chatting to me when it happened. One did a B1 quick exit , but the younger guy grabbed the big guy by the shoulder, as he bounced back from my kick. The commotion brought nurses, who dived on him and dragged him to a private room.

I discovered later that he was a mental patient from the local mental hospital !!!  His guards had dropped him off and left him!!!  That just ain't right at all.  These people should not be in a general ward but placed in a room with mental nurses in attendance.  I phoned a lawyer when I got out who said that I would be wasting my time pursuing it.  I am sure he meant his time.!

The mental patient was taken back under police escort . I was interviewed. As he had been sectioned no assault charge could be levied as he was technically nuts !!.
