German Catholics will be denied Holy Communion or a religious burial if they refuse to pay church tax
The Roman Catholic church was funded, in the past, by selling indulgences, masses and anything that they could!!
Kings would pay, prior to going to War, to absolve them of the bad deeds of killing their enemies. Of course, the money was raised from their people, through forms of taxation or derived from booty captured.
This racket of indulgences was only stopped in the 1950's. They are now doing market testing of a new money maker, it would appear, which will probably be opened out to all countries.
A gift to a religion is generally treated as income tax allowable as all of them are supposed to be charities. However, this would seem to be an admission price, which would make it a payment to a commercial venture and NOT a gift. I foresee a lot of tax cases coming out of this one.
