BBC News - ZX Spectrum's chief designers reunited 30 years on
Well it was 30 years ago, today,
That Clive Sinclair taught us all to play.
Onward to fast processing, we did go,
Sorry Sgt Pepper!!
Is it really 30 years? I have still got mine, complete with cassette tape program. All sorts of add ons came out and you ended up needing your whole floor to lay it all out and wire it all up.!! But it made number crunching very easy.
The unfortunate thing that it had was a 'beep' button. The idea was to make synthesised music, by using the beep. It took me an afternoon, to figure out that the beep of the ATM machines could be worked out using beep. There are 10 numbers and yes/no. In the C to C music scale there are eight notes and four half notes, making 12 possibilities. I took C to C up by 2.5 octaves and played with the beep time length which ended up as 0.25 of a second.
Thirty years later, they still use the same settings !!!
