In the uK, firms are offering to fit free solar panels to your roof. Great I hear you cry! You in return, sell them the use of your roof, for any term up to 25 years. You pay fr whatever you use and the rest of he energy is sod on by the Solar Panel firm. This is how they get income.
Problems arise if you wish to sell your house. Some lenders will not provide a mortgage for the buyer as you have a deal. Some firms will allow you to buy them out and they then charge you loss of earnings and dismantling fees. This comes off the price of your house!!!!
Beware of people bearing free gifts is the answer.
