Nigeria violence leaves 800 dead: HRW

PressTV - Nigeria violence leaves 800 dead: HRW

I was beginnign to think that Goodluck Jonathan had finally turned round this fractured country. There are two main tribes in the North and south of the country who are basically at War with each other. Within the South there is another region, round the Capital, Lagos, which controls the power and the oil.
Normally elections were of the one side in, one side out variety and each robbed the coffers of the country when they got in to power. Jonathan, a Southerner, immediately picked a Northerner to be his deputy and picked ministers from both sides for his Government when he was elected the first time. Whether this was an effort to calm things or just to stabilise things in order for him, personally, to stay in power for a while is not known.
But it don't seem to have worked out too well in, this, his second term.
