This should happen in the Uk too. I have seen single dogs and several dogs running round inside cars for years. Woman tend to like the dog in their laps, like this guy did. Some sit quite contented on the back shelf.
The only time I every had dogs in a car, one lay down in the front space at the passenger seat and the other lay on the back seat. Neither moved during any journey's. There were no mine. They belong to a lady that I was in a relationship with at the time. I often wondered what would happen it a car pulled up with a cat on the parcel shelf.? I was lucky as nothing ever happened and I was always uncomfortable about them being there.
Dogs, leaping about can throw switches at the wrong time. Jump up suddenly and start barking and do all sorts of things if they are allowed to run round free inside the car. it is best to have an estate car and a metal barrier which gives them their place to travel in..
